Lazio are stalling on signing West Bromwich Albion striker Nicolas Anelka, after his agent asked for more money than originally requested.

The Frenchman has been in the headlines recently for his controversial quenelle goal celebration, and is eager to return to Italy after he spent a portion of last season in with Juventus.

According to Il Messaggero, Lazio president Claudio Lotito had virtually closed a deal for Anelka, but at the last minute his agent called and asked for a rise to €1 million for the next five months.

It remains to be seen whether Lazio will accept this demands, but director Igli Tare is already working on alternatives which include Catania’s Maxi Lopez and Cagliari’s Marco Sau.

The journeyman striker has netted just twice in nine games this season for West Brom.
