Hopes that the capacity of Cagliari’s home ground, the Stadio Sant’Elia, would be increased for their game against table toppers Juventus have been dispelled.

The Rossoblu returned to the Sant’Elia in October after having temporarily played their home games at the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste, yet due to safety restrictions in place at their Sardinian home this season, the Isolani have only been permitted to play in front of a crowd which holds a maximum of 4,798 fans.

Reports during this week had suggested town officials were working towards the possibility of erecting another 1,000-2,000 seats in the Curva Nord, the home of the Cagliari Ultras, ahead of the Bianconeri’s visit this Sunday.

However according to the Gazzetta dello Sport this plan of action will not take place due to rules regarding public safety and fears there is not enough time to complete the initiative successfully before Sunday’s clash.

Cagliari sit in 12th place with 21 points from 18 matches.
