Simone PerrottaEx-Roma and Azzurri midfielder Simone Perrotta gave his thoughts on a wide range of matters in a recent interview.

The 36 year old former Italian international retired at the end of last season after a wonderful career, and gave had some words for journalists at the recent Italian Footballer’s Association award ceremony.

“[When asked if the Scudetto race is still open] I think so, because  last Sunday showed us that Juve can lose some points,” Perrotta told reporters upon his arrival at the ceremony.

“I think that the championship will remain open until the penultimate day, when there will be a direct confrontation. Roma theoretically must retrieve only four points of the six, because then you play for everything on the penultimate day.

“Rudi Garcia? The job of the coach is under everybody’s eyes and he’s doing a great job. It was not easy, he took a team in pieces after the last result last year in the Coppa final.

“In my view, it is a team that can fight until the last day. It’s clear that in front of a crazy team like Juve, the hope is that they will lose some points on the road.

“Gervinho’s form? He did not come with the clamor of the fans, but it is proving to be a player of absolute value,  he can match speed with technique.

“[The Azzurri] It is clear that Italy does not start with the underdogs, but it is a team that in the last four years  has done well, especially since after the World Cup in South Africa, it has done very well.

“Prandelli has been outstanding in creating a group unified. Even in the recent past we were not favored, then we all know how that turned out. My wish is that we can repeat that ride for the fans.”
