Sacchi: Scudetto race is not over yet

Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi has claimed that the Scudetto fight is still not over despite Juventus going eight points clear atop the Serie A after their win against second-placed Roma on Sunday.

The Bianconeri ended the Giallorossi’s unbeaten start to the season by running out 3-0 victors in Turin, with a Mirko Vucinic penalty following goals from Arturo Vidal and Leonardo Bonucci to seal all three points for the home side, as Daniele De Rossi and Leandro Castan saw red for the visitors late on.

However Sacchi doesn’t feel that a third straight league title is a foregone conclusion for the Italian champions and saw the away team make a good account of themselves, getting more shots on target and achieving 56% ball possession during the course of the match.

“The championship isn’t finished, and the Juventus players know that very well,” he told Mediaset after the game.

“It was a strange match, everybody expected an aggressive Juve, and instead, in the first 15 minutes Roma dominated proceedings. [Rudi] Garcia’s team played some good football.

“Juventus demonstrated that they are very strong, even if they weren’t spectacular. They were very humble in following the directions of the boss [Antonio Conte].

“Conte feared the Roma fightback, and so made the team sit deeper, but after [Arturo] Vidal’s goal, Roma weren’t able to pose a threat despite all their possession of the ball.”
