Alberto Malesani - GenoaSassuolo have announced that Alberto Malesani will take over as their new first team coach after the promoted side parted company with Eusebio Di Francesco on Tuesday.

The Neroverdi are languishing in 18th place in Serie A having mustered just 1 win in their last nine games and this prompted the Emilia side to sack Di Francesco after twenty one league games.

Reports had been linking Pippo Inzaghi as the front runner for the position however after Milan blocked the approach, Sassuolo turned to the more experienced former Palermo man who will take the reins at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore immediately.

A statement on the clubs official website read: “Sassuolo Calcio can announce that it has entrusted first team coaching duties to Alberto Malesani.

“Mr. Malesani will direct the team’s training this afternoon.

“The official presentation will take place on Thursday, January 30.”
