AC Milan legend Demetrio Albertini has insisted his former side go into Wednesday’s Champions League Last 16 clash with Atletico Madrid as underdogs.

But the 42-year-old, who made over 400 appearances for the Rossoneri and also turned out for the Spanish side, said Clarence Seedorf’s men should not be written off.

“Atletico are favourites, especially given their current position in La Liga,”Albertini told AS.

“But they should also remember that the Champions League is Milan’s home.

“It will be a special game. Obviously my heart belongs to Milan, but there is also a small piece for Atletico as I have good memories of both the club and Madrid as a city.”

The former midfielder, who won the tournament three times during his Rossoneri career, also commented on both coaches ahead of the tie at the San Siro.

“The arrival of [Diego] Simeone has modernised Atletico – he has given them better balance and character,” he said.

“As for Seedorf – he has not yet had time to fix things, even if the team has improved and was reinforced during the winter.”
