Franco Baresi has become the latest prominent figure to draw comparisons between young defender Mattia De Sciglio and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.
The 21-year-old’s season has been interrupted by injury twice so far, but Baresi, who spent his entire career with the Rossoneri and made over 700 appearances for the club, insists the youngster reminds him of a young Maldini.
“He possesses great quality,” Baresi told the Milan Channel on Friday.
“He’s shown it ever since he was very young.
“I remember Paolo when he started out – he played with a boldness and confidence, but also provided security. De Sciglio has those qualities too.”
Baresi expanded his analysis to include the central defensive pairing of January signing Adil Rami and Colombia international Cristian Zapata.
“I think they can be compatible,” he said.
“Rami has shown already that he has both quality and personality, while Zapata offers us more security.”
