Catania drew 3-3 with Livorno at the Stadio Angelo Massimino on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

All the goals came in the second half of the game and goalscoring sequence involved the Amaranto scoring first and then the Etnei would equalise.

Innocent Emeghara opened the scoring, Gonzalo Bergessio equalised, Paulinho gave the Amaranto the lead, Pablo Barrientos leveled the scores and Emeghara got his brace before Sergio Almiron got the Sicilian team’s third equaliser of the match.

Livorno attacked the home side while Catania struggled to counterattack effectively.

Paulinho shot straight at Catania goalkeeper Alberto Frison, Emerson tested the keeper from a free-kick and then Paulinho and Innocent Emeghara shot wide. For the Etnei, Nicolas Spolli headed wide after a Francesco Lodi free-kick.

Paulinho had another chance to score but volleyed after receiving a Paolo Castellini cross.

Both teams went into the break scoreless. Although the Etnei gained more possession as the half went on, they possessed little threat in the final third.

After the break, Livorno took the lead in the 50th minute thanks to Emeghara. Andrea Luci made a run from his own half and took a shot from outside of the box. Frison saved the angled drive but he could do nothing about Emeghara’s tapping-in the rebound.

Catania leveled the scores after 61 minutes. After an exchange of passes on the left-wing, Barrientos crossed low for Bergessio at the near post. Bergessio’s first shot was saved by Francesco Bardi in the Livorno goal but the Etnei forward knocked in the rebound.

The Amaranto regained the lead through a debatable penalty after 71 minutes. Emeghara was thought to have been tripped by Frison but the Catania keeper got the ball first. Paulinho went low to his right and sent Frison the other way.

The Etnei made it 2-2 after 75 minutes after a corner from the left and Barrientos, who was left unmarked in the penalty box, tapped the ball in.

Two minutes later, Livorno went 3-2 up. Alfred Duncan’s left-foot drive was saved by Frison and Emeghara put the ball into the net with another rebound.

The Sicilian side showed great spirit and searched for another equaliser. Lodi took a free-kick from the left for Catania and Spolli headed wide.

Catania equalised once again after 88 minutes. After an exchange of passes outside of the penalty box, Mariano Izco crossed from the right and substitute Almiron tapped the ball in from close range after controlling the ball on his chest.

Lodi’s free-kick from 35 metres was saved by Bardi and Ishak Belfodil had a chance for Livorno but both teams ended up sharing the spoils.
