Mimmo Di Carlo has admitted that new loan signing Ishak Belfodil is not fit and shed a light on the player’s situation with parent club Inter.

The 22-year-old forward moved to Livorno on loan in January having barely featured for the Nerazzurri under Walter Mazzarri.

Since the move the Algerian has appeared twice as a substitute and Di Carlo has admitted he is some way from full match fitness: “It seems incredible that a player like Belfodil has arrived in January in these conditions,” he told reporters.

“A player with his characteristics needs to play with continuity. It seems strange to me that when he was at Inter he has failed to find an acceptable form.

“The guy told me that he trained alone, and this is also a strange thing, unthinkable for an investment of that proportion.

“I do not know what happened, whether there were problems between Belfodil and the club. This may have been why he was working away from the rest of the group.

“I’m sorry, because he will need some time.”

Belfodil cost Inter €6.6m last summer following a solid season with Parma where he scored eight goals.
