Parma coach Roberto Donadoni admitted it was a strange week for his side leading into their 0-0 draw against Catania on Sunday afternoon.

Although he did not want to use it as an excuse, the former Azzurri boss said it had been odd having two full weeks of training behind them after last weekend’s game against Roma had been called off after just nine minutes.

“We faced an abnormal and unusual week before this game,” Donadoni told Rai Sport. “We did not play against Roma and that meant that we came into this game on the back of two weeks of training sessions.

“This cannot be an alibi or an excuse for us [for not winning] and Catania are a very good team who would have made life difficult for any other team in the league with the way that they played today.”

When asked if the visitors had deserved the win, his riposte to curtly suggest: “This is superficial discourse that you cannot possibly answer.

“Yes, they hit the post twice but to evaluate the game just on this would be unfair.”
