Cagliari coach Diego Lopez has urged his side to move on quickly from their disappointing 2-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Livorno on Sunday afternoon.

The match was a dour affair, until Emerson scored a contender for goal of the season a minute before the interval to spark the game into life – Paulinho then doubled the away side’s advantage from the penalty spot and Nene halved the deficit, before Daniele Conti, Marco Benassi and Federico Ceccherini all saw red in the second half.

“It was a very important match for us, in the first half we were very tense, and couldn’t enjoy our usual passages of play,” Lopez told Rai Sport after the game.

“They scored a great goal through Emerson, while in the second half, with some desire, we managed to score a goal, but couldn’t equalise.

“We didn’t do well, but we have to look ahead.”

With Sardi president Massimo Cellino close to completing a takeover of English Championship side Leeds United, the club’s future is still uncertain.

“I continue to say the same thing – that isn’t the problem,” he continued.

“We have repeated the match against Bologna, in which we did very badly. Every so often it happens to us but we only pay attention to what happens on the pitch.

“The directors and the president discuss the rest, at the moment it’s important to be united.”
