Catania coach Rolando Maran believes that his side’s victory today marks the start of their recovery after everyone had already written them off.
The Elefanti dominated in a 3-1 victory over a Lazio side previously unbeaten since the return of Edy Reja, despite beginning the match at the foot of the table.
“Our season starts here,” Maran told Sky Sport Italia. “When I returned here, Catania had been written off, now we are on the right track”.
“We knew that we would need a huge achievement to get a result and we did it. I have to compliment my team.
“We’re out of the relegation zone for a few hours at least and it is our fourth game unbeaten, despite missing some key players.
On his side’s chances of avoiding the drop, he added: “I knew this squad had what it takes to stay in Serie A, but there’s a long way to go yet.”
Following Sunday’s results, Catania are in eighteenth place, one point off safety.
