However, the former Inter and Lazio midfielder did admit that he had to alter his formation to cope with Mario Balotelli and Kaka, but indicated that he felt it had come from a lack of intensity from his own players.
“We knew we had to meet a determined and intense AC Milan, we were a bit slow in the first half,” Simeone told Sky Sport Italia.
“In the second half we changed, we were better at stopping Balotelli and Kaka, controlling the midfield.
“Then we began to take advantage and the goal put us in a position to play the game we expected.
“We all know that when you get in these chances you must take them, today we took advantage of the opportunities.
“The team played a great game with intelligence. I know what and we know our limits, this helps us make the difference.”
