AC Milan could reportedly earn up to €10 million if they can find a way past Atletico Madrid into the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Rossoneri face an uphill task at Atleti’s Estadio Vincente Calderon on Tuesday evening, having lost the first leg of their Round of 16 tie 1-0 at San Siro, but there could be more than pride to play for, with significant financial rewards on offer should the Diavolo qualify.

According to il Corriere della Sera, between television rights and UEFA prize money, Milan would be in line to pocket some important funds both for the present and the future.

Passage through to the final eight of Europe’s premier club competition would result in a pay-off of €3.5m from UEFA, with the Milanese giants needing to win by at least two clear goals to progress, if they wish to avoid a penalty shootout.

Then, should they can manage to mount a famous comeback against los Rojiblancos, who have the best defensive record in La Liga, the Diavolo could earn around €4.7m from a last-eight encounter in the competition.

This is the figure Milan pocketed at the same stage of the 2011-12 edition, despite falling to a 3-1 aggregate defeat against Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the revenue from TV and commercial rights should come to an estimated €2m.
