Callejon - Napoli v RomaNapoli forward Jose Callejon has revealed that the Azzurri are still confident in their chances of securing second place before the end of the campaign.

The Partenopei, who will face Juventus on Sunday, currently sit in third place on the Serie A table with 61 points, which is six points behind Roma, and the 27-year-old insists that his team will continue fighting to earn a definite spot in the Champions League for next season.

Callejon spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli about the San Paolo outfit’s mission for the season, while also commenting on his chance at earning a spot in Spain’s World Cup squad this summer and his debut season in Naples.

“Second place? We’re fighting for this and we’ll keep trying,” said the former Real Madrid man, who has scored 11 goals in his 29 Serie A appearances this season thus far.

“The Champions League is important for everyone and we’re working hard to win.

“Scudetto? Juve is still very strong, but next season we’ll try to challenge them.

“Spanish national team? I work for my club and to remain at high levels, then if I happen to get called to the national team I’m pleased.

“The coach [Vicente] Del Bosque will ultimately make his choices.

“My debut season with Napoli? I’m doing very well here. I do my job good for both me and my team-mates. We are doing good, coach [Rafa] Benitez has confidence in me.

“[Javier] Mascherano to Napoli? He’s a great footballer and that’s why he plays at Barcelona. Hopefully we have him here with us next season.”
