Edgar Davids has warned his former Juventus teammate Alessandro Del Piero not to rush his coaching ambitions once he retires from playing professional football.

The Dutchman recently ended his professional playing career in England and already experienced his first coaching role as a player/coach at Barnet, while the 39-year old Del Piero is reportedly on the verge of taking on a coaching role.

“I know him very well, but Alessandro Del Piero knows himself better than anyone else,” Davids told the press in Tokyo.

“Only he can answer the question if he is going to stop or if he is going to play, that’s  his own decision.

“But he can be a great asset for a team, in a management position or whatever.

“But you also need to get some experience, because you can’t stop one day and then be a manager the next day.

“He’s bright and very intelligent, so he knows when the time is right and only he can answer the question if he wants to be a manager somewhere.”

Davids recently appeared at the Juventus Stadium before the match against Inter and was officially named as a Bianconeri ambassador.
