Hellas Verona 3-0 Genoa: Two from Toni ensures comfortable home win for the Gialloblu

Luca Toni - VeronaHellas Verona beat Genoa 3-0 at the Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday afternoon.

Marco Donadel’s low drive gave the Verona side the lead before a stoppage time double from Luca Toni sealed the victory.

Fabrizio Cacciatore had the first notable chance of the game when he met Luca Toni’s feed with a left shot inside the box was saved my Mattia Perin.

Paolo De Ceglie pushed forward on the left wing for Genoa and lofted a cross in for Ricardo Centurion, who couldn’t direct his header away from Rafael in the Verona goal.

Marquinho found Juan Iturbe in the middle of Genoa’s box with a low driving ball that the young Argentine hit off the face of a Genoa defender. Iturbe and his teammates called for handball but the officials ignored the claims.

Hallfredsson found Luca Toni on the far side of the box but the veteran’s header was saved in the top right corner by Perin.

Cacciatore found the net for Verona on the half hour mark but the goal was ruled offside, the midfield straying off after Luca Toni’s flick on.

Marco Donadel gave Verona the lead from nearly 25 yards out when the ball dropped to him outside the Genoa box and the midfielder drilled an effort beyond Perin into the bottom right corner, bouncing in off the upright.

Ricardo Centurion found Guiseppe Sculli in the box for a header but the forwards attempt was weak and wide.

Andrea Bertolacci found Moussa Konate from a tight angle but his effort flew too high.

Marquinho found Iturbe once again but the effort was saved by Rafael. Verona were sent down to 10 men just before the end of the first half when Michaelangelo Albertazzi recieved his second yellow for obstructing Guiseppe Sculli on his way to goal.

Juan Iturbe found Luca Toni for the first chance of the second half but the winger’s effort flew wide.

Hallfredsson found Cacciatore with a long delivery once again but the full backs effort was wide to the left.

Guiseppe Sculli’s found full back Marco Motta for Genoa’s first attempt of the second period but the full backs attempt was also wide past the left hand side.

Genoa continued to push forward when Alberto Gilardino found Andrea Bertolacci from distance but the Italian’s effort missed the top left corner by inches while Moussa Konate unleashed a left footed shot also narrowly missed the top-left hand corner.

Verona scored twice in quick succession with Luca Toni grabbing both goals; the first a confident finish following a Verona counter and the second an identical effort with his right foot, easily clipping away a lightning Verona move, taking advantage of Genoa’s exposed back line.

The goals proved to be the last notable actions of the game, Verona ending the game with a comfortable home win.
