javi-martinez-bayern munichSpanish national team midfielder Javi Martinez believes that his country’s win against Italy on Wednesday was an important test ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Roja secured a 1-0 victory over the Azzurri in Madrid on Wednesday with Pedro scoring the match’s only goal midway through the second half, and the 25-year-old admits that Spain handled the Italians properly in both attack and defence despite the narrow result.

Martinez spoke to the press after Wednesday’s victory about how important it was for Spain to win, while also commenting on his role on the pitch during the game.

“It was an important test, as it was the last game before the World Cup,” said the Bayern Munich man.

“It was important for us to have a good game, and so we did, in both attack and defence.

“I’ve usually played more in defence and not so much in the centre of the midfield, but I’m adapting myself to this situation.”
