Cagliari coach Diego Lopez admitted that his side came up against a ‘great’ Lazio after their 2-0 defeat to the Biancocelesti on Sunday afternoon.

Senad Lulic and Keita Balde scored either side of the break to condemn the Sardi to the home defeat. The hosts also saw Mauricio Pinilla miss a penalty and had captain Daniele Conti sent off for two bookable offences to cap off a disappointing afternoon.

“I think that Lazio have a great team, they are in difficulty because of the environment, not because of the players,” Lopez told Rai Sport after the game.

“The match was balanced, after the restart it became difficult though. We missed a penalty and then seconds after we conceded a second goal and had [Daniele Conti] sent off.

“I think what the fans express should be left alone, we need to focus on the pitch and not what happens away from it.

“It was an important game but we faced a good side. It wasn’t a battle for safety.”
