Napoli midfielder to miss World Cup due to passport issue

Napoli’s Jorginho will not be called up to the Italy World Cup squad this summer because he is waiting for his Italian passport.

The 22-year-old Brazilian native has heavily impressed this season with both Verona and Napoli and has garnered the attention of Azzurri coach Cesare Prandelli.

Sky Sport Italia reports that Jorginho was taken into consideration for a spot at this year’s World Cup by Prandelli, but will not be eligible for a call-up.

The midfielder’s Italian passport that would allow him to play in the World Cup will arrive around the start of next season.

In 23 league appearances this season Jorginho has netted seven times and provided five assists.
