Roma have released the plans for a proposed new home for the Giallorossi that they hope will be ready for the 2016-2017 Serie A season.

The new stadium will have a capacity of 52,000 fans and the potential to expand to 60,000 seats and will be built in the Tor di Valle area on top of the site of the old Hippodrome.

Club president James Palotta described the stadium as “modern 52,000 seater with state of the art technology,” on the club’s official website.

He also added it has been designed to “strike fear into our opponents.”

Architect Dan Meis announced that he intended to create a new landmark for the capital with his designs:

“With the Stadio della Roma we want to reproduce the glory and power of the Colosseum.”

“We want to develop a stadium where the fans are close to the playing field unlike at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We’ve designed a stadium specifically for football that evokes the spirit of the city’s most symbolic monument: the Colosseum.”

One unique feature of the current plans is that the players will enter the pitch via a hydraulic lift rather than the traditional tunnel.
