A downbeat Genoa defender Marco Motta expressed his disappointment with his side’s fruitless rewards after their 2-1 defeat to the Rossoneri on Monday night.

Goals from Adel Taarabt and Keisuke Honda on either side of the interval seemed to have won it for the visitors, but Motta’s outlandish strike from 20 yards breathed life back into the match.

The 27-year-old Motta was denied at the death by Philippe Mexes, which left the hosts to reflect on what might have been.

“We’re here to reflect on a great performance but without a point,” Motta told RAI Sport.

“The result doesn’t go down well because we created a lot but were not able to score. This is something we’ll need to rectify.”

The 13th placed Rossoblu now turn their attention to their fixture away to Torino on Sunday.
