Shakhter Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has revealed that he tried to sign Livorno star Ishak Belfodil last summer before his move to Inter.
The 22 year old Algerian is currently on loan at Livorno after struggling to find a place in the first team at the Nerazzurri in the first half of the campaign.
“For me, Belfodil has significant potential,” Lucescu told fcinternews.it. “He is an interesting player; in fact, I wanted him last year. I tried to sign him, but he eventually went to Inter.
“Will we come back to him in June? I think it’s difficult. Inter has paid a substantial figure and I do not know whether they want to sell him.
“Mbaye? Sure he is a very good player, but we play with Ukrainian players in defense. There would there be a problem related to nationality.”
Belfodil has made a combined 19 appearances for both Inter and Livorno while scoring one goal.
