Genoa defender Marco Motta described their 2-1 defeat to AC Milan on Monday night as a ‘great performance’, but admitted that it means little when they have failed to take any points from the match.

In a match when the Grifone registered three times as many attempts on goal as their opponents the Italian highlighted a lack of finishing as the reason why they left the Luigi Ferraris disappointed, with the sides’ late consolation goal coming from Rossoneri goalkeeper Christian Abbiati.

“We are here to comment on a great performance but zero points,” Motta told Rai Sport.

“As a result, you feel down because we created a lot, but we were unable to finish, we have to improve on that.”

Although Gian Piero Gasperini’s side had 20 shots on the Milan goal during the match just six were on target, while Adel Taarabt and Keisuke Honda converted two of just five chances the visitors could muster.
