Gianfranco ZolaGianfranco Zola has revealed that he hopes Napoli can win a Scudetto under coach Rafa Benitez in the near future.

The 47-year-old, who played for the Partenopei from 1989-93 and won a Serie A title in his debut season with them, admits that Benitez has the right idea for the club and feels that they have what it takes to win Italy’s top tier.

Zola spoke to ‘Si Gonfia La Rete’ on Radio Crc on Wednesday about Napoli’s progress under the leadership of Rafa Benitez, while also praising the tactician along with some of the Italian club’s players.

“I’m in Naples. I came to wish Rafa Benitez well and to see Napoli train,” said former Chelsea man. “I’ll be at Castel Volturno tomorrow.

“I play with a different module, but my idea of the game is very similar to that of the Spanish tactician. This is what matters in football, it’s beyond the numbers. It’s the philosophy of the game.

“Benitez is a great coach, he’s very thick headed and you can see it right away. Then, to win in Italy it takes time, but the Spaniard is doing great things.

“I really like [Dries] Mertens and he also did very well in the match against Parma. I have to admit that I’m also fascinated by [Gokhan] Inler and [Faouzi] Ghoulam.

“I hope that Napoli can win another Scudetto soon. Their ideas are right, they just have to persevere. I’ll always thank Naples, my time there served as a stepping stone in my career and the people have always been generous.”
