Cesare Prandelli - ItalyFIGC president Giancarlo Abete has confirmed that Italy boss Cesare Prandelli will be signing a contract renewal with the national team in the coming days.

The 56-year-old tactician’s future has been in question as of late, as it’s been believed that he could be looking to return to coaching a club after this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, though it now seems that he’ll be continuing his role as leader of the Azzurri for some time.

Abete recently spoke during a press conference at an event celebrating the history of Italy’s national team and revealed that Prandelli’s renewal is close to being finalised.

“The formalisation of the renewal of the contract of coach Cesare Prandelli will be made in the coming days,” said the FIGC chief, who has previously expressed his wishes to keep the tactician on board as Italy coach.

“It’s just a formality, since in our point of view all it took was a handshake.”
