Diego MaradonaNapoli legend Diego Maradona would be open to be an ambassador for the club, but only if the team starts to win.

The 53-year-old, who played for the Parenopei between 1984 and 1991, wants  president Aurelio De Laurentiis to change his mentality.

“I like the idea of being an ambassador, but we have to reach an agreement on how he [De Laurentiis] pictures it, if he wants to do it for himself or the people,” Maradona told the TV Show +N.

“If he wants to do it for Naples, I would agree.

“[Ezequiel] Lavezzi and [Edinson] Cavani could have kept playing in Napoli, it would have been a great Napoli, but they did not do that; that is why [they] were a little distant, we [Maradona and De Laurentiis] are not on the same page.

“I want to be Napoli ambassador, but first of all I want a great Napoli, a Napoli that won’t lose the Champions League as a goal, I do not like that.

“I must return to Naples to win Scudetto. I would make De Laurentiis ,or a future president, understand that this is not only cinema.

“When I have convinced the president that the Neapolitan needs to win every Sunday, I will be happy, because all the people would be happy, and I am the only one that can make De Laurentiis understand that Neapolitans want, and deserve, the Scudetto.”

He concluded by speaking about current Napoli coach Rafa Benitez.

“He is very good, I met him at Liverpool, he is a gentleman.

“He understands football and the state of the team. Napoli chose well.”
