Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi joked that as an Inter fan he would like to see Antonio Conte leave Juventus as he feels the Old Lady would suffer in his absence.

The 2006 World Cup winner also spoke about what he thinks of Italy’s chances in Brazil for the 2014 edition of the tournament.

The 40-year-old was asked by Tuttomercatoweb.com if he could imagine seeing a Juventus side without Conte.

“As an Inter fan I hope to see it because they would lose a lot.”

Materazzi was also asked about what he thinks of the current Azzurri side.

“It’s a team that has displayed in these four years of transition that they have changed the way they play, compared to what we were doing before, finishing second at Euro 2012 and qualifying comfortably for the World Cup.

“In South America we know that anything can happen and that usually European teams don’t win. We hope to dispel this taboo.”

“We used to be more counter attacking oriented. this team tries to assert its own game with a great midfield of [Daniele] De Rossi, [Andrea] Pirlo, Thiago Motta and [Claudio] Marchisio.

“In midfield they are better than we were but we managed to bring home a World Cup. Let’s hope they do it also.”

The former Everton defender also spoke about England ahead of the group opener with  Italy.

“We never know how the English will turn up,but they will start strongly and that game will mark the crossroads of the group.

“We know how to be mentally strong and that we are a great European team that has beaten them many times but there is always the unknown element of youth.”
