Honorary Inter president Massimo Moratti said that some of the players that will be leaving could maybe still have helped the team.

Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel, Diego Milito and Esteban Cambiasso are all set to leave the Nerazzurri playing staff this summer.

“I want to thank Giovanni Galli who invited me, it is a pleasure to see these kids with so much energy, I understand and share his enthusiasm,” Moratti told Tuttomercatoweb after attending the final of the Niccolò Galli tournament for kids born after 2001.

“Teams always need to have a balance and I think Inter are on the right path.

“I thank those who asked me to return to the presidency, they are very kind, but it is right to look to the future.

“[Erick] Thohir and his group have all the qualities to do well.”

He was asked whether maybe they should have parted ways earlier with some of the aforementioned players.

“I do not think so, they proved until the end to be very strong. However, time passes and it is normal to look forward.

“Maybe some of them could still play with us, but this depends on the project somebody has, this is only my personal judgment.”

Moratti was then quizzed on a rumoured argument between him and Thohir about the financial health of the club.

“I talked with Thohir this morning, nothing like that happened.

“There are other problems that we have to face.”

He was asked if he will follow the World Cup.

“Undoubtedly, I always did that with passion and I hope they [Italy] will build a group that will show character at the right moment.”

Inter are currently without a captain and Andrea Ranocchia is one of the candidates.

“I would like that a lot, I hope [Cesare] Prandelli takes him to the World Cup.”
