After the announcement of Roma’s deal with Nike in March 2013, there has been a year of waiting for Nike’s first attempt at designing the Giallorossi’s kit, the time has finally arrived for that kit to be released.

It’s fair to say that they have not disappointed in their efforts as they released their work on the clubs home kit.

Nike have opted away from any and all complications in this shirt and it’s simplicity is what makes it so eye-catching.

After the Giallorossi wore a brand-less kit for the 2013/14 campaign following a dispute with Kappa, Nike seem to have taken some inspiration from those kits which were received so well.

The recent theme of incorporating a button-up neck and a collar into a football shirt is continued by Nike here and that is absolutely something whole-heartedly endorsed by me.

The button and collar combination bears striking resemblance to that of the French national side’s World Cup kit and it would appear that this is a feature that Nike are going to be using more often, having done something similar with the Manchester United home kit from last season.

Personally, my favourite aspect of this kit is how successfully Nike have combined a traditional and modern look, much like the Dutch World Cup kit, also designed by Nike. The club are also shying away from the traditional black socks, as this years will be matching in colour to the shirt.

The only thing that I can think the fans may dislike about the new kit is the crest. Having visited Rome towards the back end of last season, it was no secret that they were not fond of the latest variation of the club’s badge.

Having seen a few images of the rumoured away kit, it’s worth keeping an eye out for the release of that one as it has the potential to be the best kit in the world of football for the 2014/15 season.

Before the release of this, it was a closely fought battle at the top of my Serie A kit table between the AC Milan and Lazio home kits, but Roma have come storming in to push their city rivals and the Rossoneri aside and sit comfortably at the top of the fashion table.

I think I speak for everyone at Forza Italian Football when I say we cannot wait to see King Francesco and Daniele De Rossi trot out in this piece of art next season.

Be sure to come back for more Serie A kit watch, and keep a special eye out as we await Nike’s first attempt of a Roma away kit, they have set the bar quite high!
