arrigo sacchiFormer AC Milan and Italy legend Arrigo Sacchi is being tipped to replace outgoing FIGC president Giancarlo Abete, who resigned following last the Azzurri’s elimination from the World Cup.

Abete, who was first elected president of the FIGC in 2007 and was reelected in 2013, resigned following Italy’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Uruguay, though he maintains that the decision to resign had been made before the tournament began.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb the FIGC have moved quickly in sounding out potential replacements for the presidency and legendary coach Arrigo Sacchi, who currently oversees the national youth teams, has been identified as a prime candidate.

If Sacchi were to be moved up in the FIGC hierarchy, his role overseeing the youth sector of Italian football would be taken by Fiorentina legend and 1982 World Cup winner Giancarlo Antognoni.
