Spain national team coach Vicente del Bosque is calling for his team to put the heavy defeat at the hands of the Netherlands behind them.

La Roja went into the game as many people’s favourites to win the tournament and things looked to be going to plan as they went 1-0 ahead, only to eventually be demolished 5-1 by Louis van Gaal’s Dutch side.

Del Bosque spoke to Sky after the game.

“It’s a defeat, it’s part of the sport,” he said. “There were too many mistakes, they fought to earn a better result,” he continued.

He went on to say that the Netherlands made it difficult for his side but he is still disappointed with the performances of his players.

“They pressed us,” he said.

“But we could do better, we left them with too much space when they had possession.

“It’s a delicate situation, we must resolve the issue by winning our next match.”
