Under pressure England manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that he is not intending to resign from his post after his side suffered their second World Cup 2-1 loss on the trot against Uruguay on Thursday evening.

The Three Lions, who remain only a mathematical chance of progressing again succumbed to a second and decisive goal against La Celeste, as they did against the Italians on Saturday.

This means that they will be relying on Italy to defeat Costa Rica to keep their slim hopes alive.

Their boss is not going to be responding with any drastic moves in light of the disappointing start.

“I don’t have any intention to resign,” he said. “I’ve been really happy with the way the players have responded to the work we’ve tried to do.”

The former Liverpool coach took over prior to Euro 2012 and despite qualifying automatically and boasting  a talented squad, he has been unable to guide them to earning a point thus far.

“I’m bitterly disappointed, of course, but I don’t feel I need to resign, no,” he added.

“On the other hand, if the FA think I’m not the right man to do the job, that will be their decision not mine.”
