Former Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli has said that former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli made some wrong choices during the World Cup.

Italy were eliminated in the first round of Brazil 2014 and Galli pointed the blame on Prandelli and his squad selections.

“I must be honest: to pass the first round was not impossible. Cesare paid for his choices,” Galli said to firenzeviola.it.

“From a footballing perspective, it was a failure but as a man he showed consistency.”

Prandelli had regularly selected enigmatic striker Mario Balotelli in attack despite his controversial behaviour and lack of scoring prowess at club level.

The former Azzurri coach also left Fiorentina forward Giuseppe Rossi out of the final squad of 23 players after he initially made the 30-man preliminary squad.

Galli played four matches in goal for Italy at the 1986 World Cup and the Azzurri were eliminated in the second round by France.

He was also in the Italian squad when Italy hosted the 1980 European Championship and when the Azzurri won the 1982 World Cup in Spain.
