Genoa president Enrico Preziosi is set to fly to China to discuss possible investment in Italy’s oldest football club.

Preziosi will journey to the far east in the next 15 days to speak with Chinese entrepreneurs about a possible deal. It has been rumoured that the new investors will receive 30% ownership of the club for a currently undisclosed fee. However, it is believed the shares will be higher than the 30% that is currently being floated around.

Last December Preziosi told Gazzette dello Sport that he has lost a large amount of money since taking over Genoa.

“Over the last few years I have lost €140 million and in a period of financial crisis in the country I am even ashamed to admit it,” Preziosi said.

The toy impresario also spoke about selling some of the club’s key players, though currently none have been sold this summer.

“It was my money and I spent it for the good of Genoa. However, the time has come for a change of approach. In the next two years we’ll try to balance the books and to do that there have to be some sacrifices.

“We are behind the Bundesliga and Premier League in that respect, there’s no doubt. I too would love a stadium with a club museum, restaurants and other attractions. In Italy the stadium is used for 90 minutes once every 14 days and that is it.”

Preziosi has been a divisive character as Genoa president since he took the club over in 2003 after the club had been liquidated.
