Iniesta says lack of commitment was not to blame for Spain’s elimination

Andres Iniesta showed his frustration after Spain’s elimination from the World Cup during the post match media conference.

Following their defeat to Chile, Spain have become the first reigning World Champions to lose their first two games in the next edition of the competition. 

Iniesta disagreed with his teammate Xabi Alonso, as he believes the hunger for the title was there but the competition was better this time around.

“It’s his opinion,when things don’t come through, it’s never because of lack of commitment because everyone here wants to win,” said Iniesta as reported by AS.com

“We just weren’t good enough.”

“I don’t think it’s [commitment] the issue to focus on.

“We were at the highest and now are at the lowest point”.

On the topic of a possible lack of leadership with La Roja, the Barcelona player said:

“Everyone must be their own leader, and we weren’t good today.”

“It is a cruel moment for this to happen, we had great expectations and this is very hard on us, it’s not an easy time”.

“This team must always win when it goes onto the pitch.

“We didn’t this time and this is a big weight on our shoulders because we had big expectations.”
