After returning from suspension to lead Croatia to victory over Cameroon with a two-goal performance on Wednesday night Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic was keen to acknowledge the efforts his teammates play in any individual success.
The 28-year-old missed the sides 3-1 defeat to Brazil in the opening game after being sent-off in their play-off with Iceland, but effectively ended the Indomitable Lions hopes of a recover after netting twice in the last 30 minutes.
“I had trained hard for this one so that I could put in a strong performance,” Mandzukic told FIFA.com.
“I should stress that this was a team victory, though goals are the reward you get for great teamwork.
“I don’t think we should get too obsessive about goals, the overall objective is winning the game, after all.
“There’s still some room for improvement for this team.”
