Mexico coach Miguel Herrera criticised Netherlands attacker Arjen Robben after he appeared to exaggerate the challenge that led to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s injury time penalty that eliminated El Tri despite Giovanni dos Santos putting them in front.

However, although angered at the Dutchman’s actions, Herrera did admit that the Mexicans also had themselves to blame for first letting their opponents back into the game to equalise with just minutes remaining of normal time through Wesley Sneijder.

“It was a World Cup in which everything was against Mexico from the start,” Herrera told the Press conference.

“Robben threw himself to the floor three times and no-one said anything to him.

“After going 1-0 up the team retreated and that cost us, allowing chances to a side that previously had created nothing.

“Thanks for the support, but we weren’t able to achieve the objective.

“We made a mistake for the first goal because we left someone unmarked. We have done a good job.”
