Thomas Muller says his Germany sides feel good about their path forward after defeating the United States 1-0 in Group G action.

With the win, Germany clinch the top spot in Group G and will play the second place team in Group H. The U.S., meanwhile, finishes level on points with Portugal but advances to the next round due to superior goal difference.

Muller discussed scoring the match’s only goal with the press afterward.

“It was great to score and we are pleased to have improved our performance for the last game,” Muller said.

“The Americans are always dangerous, they put us in [a difficult spot].

“Now we think to the second round with really good spirits today.”

Muller now has nine goals in nine World Cup appearances. His goal Thursday surpassed Diego Maradona’s World Cup total.

“I am delighted and this was my best goal of the World Cup,” Muller said.

“Now we concentrate on the next challenge.”
