Netherlands World Cup squad announced

Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal has announced his 23 man squad for the World Cup, the incoming Manchester United manager whittled his squad down to the final 23 after an initial 30-man squad trained in Portugal. 

One decision made for the coach was not to include Hamburg midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart who had to withdraw due to a calf injury.

Karim Rekik, Jean Paul Boetius, Tonny Vilhena, and Quincy Promes were excluded and drop into the U-21 squad whilst PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet and Chelsea left-back Patrick van Aanholt miss out entirely.

The full Dutch squad is:

Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen (Ajax), Tim Krul (Newcastle United), Michael Vorm (Swansea)

Defenders: Daryl Janmaat (Feyenoord), Paul Verhaegh (Augsburg), Daley Blind (Ajax), Bruno Martins Indi (Feyenoord), Joel Veltman (Ajax), Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord), Terence Kongolo (Feyenoord), Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa)

Midfielders: Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord), Jonathan de Guzman (Swansea), Nigel de Jong (AC Milan), Leroy Fer (Norwich), Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray), Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV)

Forwards: Robin van Persie (Manchester United), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke), Memphis Depay (PSV), Jeremain Lens (Dynamo Kiev), Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich), Dirk Kuyt (Fenerbahce)
