Costa Rica coach Jorge Luis Pinto has praised his team for their effort as well as making history in their second round match against Greece at the World Cup.

Los Ticos defeated the Ethniki 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time and Pinto said that the result was a deserved one.

“It is a fantastic moment,” Pinto told the press.

“Our sacrifice was rewarded, above all in the last half an hour the boys gave their all. The boys sacrificed themselves and gave everything until the end.

“I knew that it would not be an easy challenge, together all of us had made history. All the people of Costa Rica at this moment are happy.”

Costa Rica will play the Netherlands in their first ever World Cup quarter-final on Saturday night at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.

Los Ticos’ best result at a World Cup prior to Brazil 2014 was a second round appearance at the 1990 World Cup, which they lost 4-1 to Czechoslovakia.
