Romulo - VeronaHellas Verona utility player, Romulo, looks likely to be cut from Cesare Prandelli’s final World Cup 23-man squad.

The Brazilian born midfielder, who can also operate at fullback, has been struggling with a niggling injury and this may convince the Italian coach to leave the player behind.

Prandelli was asked why Romulo had not featured in the match against the Republic of Ireland and the tactician told Forza Italian Football reporters: “The player has been bothered over the last few days with a fitness issue and he wasn’t in the right condition to play this match.”

Given that the Italy boss has already been quoted as saying he needs 23 athletes to take to Brazil, coupled with the fantastic debut of Torino right back Matteo Darmian, many observers are  expecting Romulo’s name to be left off the final selection.

Prandelli has potentially delayed announcing his squad after the injury to Riccardo Montolivo ended the AC Milan player’s chances of going to Brazil.
