Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi has expressed his joy at being called up by the German national team at the expense of the injured Marco Reus.
While the 22-year old admitted his disappointment for Reus, the opportunity has come as a surprise to Mustafi, who only has one senior international cap to his name.
“I’m really happy,” he told Sampdoria’s official website.
“I really want to say I am very sorry for Marco Reus. He has had a great season and is a very strong player. I hope he recovers soon.”
“But when Low rang me this morning to tell me I was going to Brazil it was a wonderful surprise.”
The Bluerchiati youngster will travel to Brazil on the back of a solid season with Sampdoria, making 33 appearances and helping his club to a 12th placed finish in the league.
