The reaction of the Brazilian public to the Spanish national team at last years Confederations Cup would suggest that La Roja were not exactly popular to begin with in Brazil.

Given the decision of Diego Costa to play for the current World and European champions instead of the country that he was born in, it’s understandable that the Brazilian people had a real desire to see Spain and Costa flop at the World Cup.

Spain’s defeat at the hands of Chile, and their subsequent elimination from the tournament sparked a social media frenzy, in which edited photos appeared by the dozen as the people of Twitter and Facebook mocked the Vicente del Bosque’s team and the focus of many was on their Brazilian-born Spanish striker.

The first, and most popular of these images was came courtesy of a Diego Costa parody Twitter account. Of all the images that surfaced, this one is probably my favourite, take a look.
