Former Bologna and current Southampton striker Gaston Ramirez could be on his way back to Serie A this summer.

Ramirez started a mere three matches for Southampton in the English Premier League last season and has spoken to the club’s hierarchy about a move back to the peninsula.

Bolgona sold Ramirez to Southampton for around €14 million last summer and he originally signed a four-year deal. However, both sides are reportedly unhappy and a move back to Serie A could suit both clubs.

Ramirez was set to go out on loan last January, but an injury prevented a deal from going through.

Ramirez is being linked with Torino and Genoa, whose Diego Polenta is also represented by Ramirez’s agent Pablo Bentancur. Meanwhile a move back to recently relegated Bologna could be on the cards with the Rossoblu selling the Uruguayan on to another Italian side.

Ramirez will play with the Uruguayan national team at this summer’s World Cup and could increase his stock with good performances. Uruguay will play Italy in the group stages along with England and Costa Rica.
