Uruguay forward, Luis Suarez, has been quick to denounce his critics after his sides 2-1 World Cup victory over England, questioning if they have anything negative to say about his attitude after his man of the match performance in Thursday nights Group D clash.

England succumbed to their second successive defeat after the Uruguayan talisman scored both his country’s goals, including a decisive strike with just six minutes remaining after he latched onto a wayward Steven Gerrard header.

Having missed the Celeste’s opener against Costa Rica due to injury, Suarez had battled to regain fitness for his sides vital clash against the Three Lions and he was visibly emotional after their victory.

“It has been like a dream, it is something I have dreamt about very often. It was one of the best games I’ve played.” The 27-year-old told reporters in a press conference.

“It’s an amazing moment for me, a few days ago I wasn’t sure if this was possible.”

The former Ajax man’s disciplinary record in recent years has led many to question his attitude and he pointed out that his sides victory was a form of retribution against his critics in England.

“Before the game, too many people in England laughed about my attitude over the last few years.

“This is a very good time for me, I want to see what they [the critics] think now.”

England’s defeat leaves them on the brink of elimination and while the Uruguayan no.9 was jubilant in his celebrations, he reserved some sympathy for his club-mate, Steven Gerrard, whose inadvertent header provided an assist for Suarez’s winning goal.

“This is an unlucky moment for him [Gerrard] and I don’t like it when he hurts like this.

“I said to him ‘Keep going, forget this game, your’e one of the best’. He’s the best player I’ve played with.

The victory keeps Uruguay’s hopes of qualification alive, while England must beat Costa Rica in their final Group D game and hope that Italy win their remaining two games in order to stand any chance of progressing to the last 16.
