The center forward for the Spanish team Fernando Torres spoke about the shock defeat against Chile that puts La Roja out of World Cup 2014 at the first hurdle.

The former Atletico Madrid and Liverpool striker was brought on as a second half substitute as the World and European Champions tried in vain to recover from a 2-0 deficit and avoid being eliminated at the group stage.

The Chelsea player sounded very optimistic for the future of the Spanish national team despite the result and said that he hopes for great things in the future.

“The following generation is great,” said Torres in his post-match comments according to AS.com

“We will accomplish great things again”, said the attacker.

Torres also took some time to show pride in what the team accomplished in the past on the back of one of their worst defeats:

“We can’t always win, but luckily we can look back and see all the great things we have done”.
