Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal expressed his delight and disbelief following the Oranje’s 5-1 demolition of reigning champions Spain.

The Dutch went into the game as underdogs and found themselves a goal behind after 27 minutes before shocking the world of football by putting five past Spain without return.

“I was not expecting a win like that,” he said while speaking in his post-match press conference.

The newly appointed Manchester United manager refused to get carried away with the result.

“It is a great start for us,” he stated. “But we have not won anything yet.”

He went on to emphasise that focus had turned to Australia and that his side were still a long way from glory at this early stage.

“Now we have to think about the next match.

“We must make sure we beat Australia to guarantee our place in the second round.

“All of the boys have been exceptional so far, but there is a long road ahead.”
