In a refreshing act of human kindness it is being reported that the Algerian national team will donate their World Cup prize money to the people of Gaza.

The news comes shortly after Algeria were knocked out in the Round of 16 against Germany after a 2-1 after extra-time defeat where they won over neutrals with their bravery and endeavour on the pitch during the World Cup.

According to journalist Waleed Abu Nada, Islam Slimani, who ensured Algeria reached their first ever knock-out phase in the World Cup by scoring a crucial header against Russia, said “they need it more than us,” referring to those in the Palestinian city.

The gesture is a stark contrast to the stories that have emerged over Cameroon and Ghana, where the players and federations struggled to reach an agreement over prize money for their appearances at the World Cup.
