New Roma signing Ashley Cole admits that he joined the capital club because of there ambition and his desire to help them win the Scudetto.

The 33-year-old signed a two year contract with the Giallorossi and is excited at joining such a big club after turning down offers from Major League Soccer for his services and spoke in detail for the first time about the move and why he chose Roma.

“For the ambitions it has, it’s a big club, who finished second last year,”Cole told the Roma channel. “I talked to the coach, he talked about his ambition and I want to help win the Scudetto.

“I had offers from smaller teams, from the United States, but I don’t just want to lie on a beach. I’ve won a lot and I do not want to stop. I’m 33, but the desire is still there, I’m here to win.”

Cole talked about growing up and the early days of his career and how it made him the player he is today.

“I grew up in a tough neighbourhood and when I took my first steps in football there was a lot of intimidation and I always I had to fight for my place, I was lucky enough to win a lot of trophies though, I hate to lose.

“I want to continue to win, to experience the thrill of lifting a trophy and share it with the fans and my family it’s something I never want to end.”

He was excited when asked about the prospect of playing alongside club captain Francesco Totti.

“I faced him several times, the first when I was 19 or 20 years old. He is extraordinary, a kind of god, an idol.”

The former England international was asked about Roma’s objectives for the season ahead.

“Win, even if I had a good season on a personal level, if we do not win I will be disappointment. We have a team that can win.”
